Ballary, August 9: Social activist SR Hiremath ridiculed that giving the incharge of Ballary district to Medical Education Minister DK Shivakumar was like giving sheep to a butcher.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Hiremath said that when he was the Energy Minister, Shivakumar was involved in solar scam and turned Ramanagar district as Republic of Ramanagar. Giving the incharge of Ballary to such a person was a clear instance for the inaction of the state government, he said.

Shivakumar had looted 10.8 lakh metric tonne iron ore from Mysore Minerals Limited. So, it was not right to entrust the responsibility of Ballary district and it was a shame on part of the state government. Two reports given by then Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde on illegal mining in the state were not yet implemented. If the coalition government has the commitment, it should immediately implement them, he challenged.
