Bengaluru: In less than a month after the model code of conduct came into force, the election officials have seized nearly Rs. 75 crore worth of cash, vehicles, jewellery, and freebies being used to induce voters across the State.

Officials have seized Rs. 38.43 crore in cash, Rs. 16.95 crore worth of liquor, and 7.7 kg of jewellery worth Rs. 1.76 crore. According to a release by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, freebies worth Rs. 15.16 crore that includes saris, blouse pieces, cookers, laptops, stoves and election-related paraphernalia have been seized. Vehicles worth Rs. 1.93 crore that were used to transport freebies and cash are also part of the seizure.

In all, 536 FIRs have been filed for poll code violations.

Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Jan 8: Four devotees, including three women, died and several more were injured in a stampede here on Wednesday night as hundreds of them jostled for tickets for Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam at Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple on Tirumala Hills, a police official said.

Hundreds of devotees turned up from across the country for the 10-day Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam commencing from January 10.

"Three women and a man died in the stampede," the official confirmed to PTI.

Meanwhile, videos of police administering CPR on a couple of woman devotees and injured persons being shifted in ambulances went viral.
