Former DG-IGP slams K'taka govt for refusing to rename circle on late IPS Officer Madhukar Shetty
Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Director General and Inspector General of Police Shankar Bidari has expressed his displeasure over state government's refusal to rename Varthuru Kodi Circle in Whitefield in Bengaluru after late IPS Officer K Madhukar Shetty.
In an emotional Facebook post, Shankar Bidari wrote "I feel very sad today. I am pondering as to what may be the reasons to reject this noble proposal to perpetuate the memory of an honest and principled officer, who worked hard and sincerely throughout his career".
He also termed the move to reject the proposal an injustice to yhe memory of am honest officer.
Bidari said that Shetty was more than a son to him. "Now it is tormenting me that the Karnataka government has rejected a proposal sent by the BBMP to name the Vartur Kodi circle as Shri Madhukar Shetty circle. The former DG also said that Karnataka is being ruled by a government which includes persons who were dealt by Shetty without fear for serious corruption charges against them.
"He never sought any favour from any politician. He never cultivated the support of his own Bunt community, though he was and will forever remain an officer of whom the Bunt community will always be proud," Bidari said. " I feel very sad today. I am confident that the righteous people will come to power early and will redeem the honour of Madhukar Shetty, a jewel among the officers, and do justice to his vibrant memory and the values he represented," he concluded in his post.
The Bengaluru civic body in July 2019 as a mark of respect to Madhukar, proposed to rename the circle as Madhukar Shetty circle. The mayor announced this after the then DCP of Whitefield, Abdul Ahad, and other friends requested. The Town Planning Standing Committee approved the proposal. According to reports, the funds sanctioned for the development of the ward were supposed to be used for installing Shetty's statue. Shetty, a 1999 batch IPS officer, died in 2018 of swine flu. He is remembered for his role in exposing illegal iron ore mining in Ballari, the backyard of powerful mining baron G. Janardhan Reddy. This case led to incumbent Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa resigning from his post then. Shetty is the son of Kannada journalist Vaddarse Raghurama Shetty.

4 workers die after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad
Dhanbad (Jharkhand) (PTI): At least four workers died after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday, a police official said.
The incident took place at Moonidih coal washery in the command area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).
"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.
The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.
The deceased have been identified as Manik Bauri, Dinesh Bauri, Deepak Bauri, and Hemlal Gope.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.
They demanded compensation, jobs for dependents and action against those responsible for the incident.
Police and administration officials are trying to pacify the protesters, an official said.
