Bengaluru: A statement by former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai linking Jammu and Kashmir’s Ranji Trophy match in Hubballi to the abrogation of Article 370 has drawn criticism on social media.

In a post on social media platform X, Bommai said that the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team playing a Ranji match in Hubballi was a sign of normalcy returning to the region after the removal of Article 370. He also stated that Jammu and Kashmir’s full participation in various fields across India was the result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong leadership.

Reacting to the post on X, B.K. Hariprasad said that even a simple Google search would show that the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team has been participating in the Ranji Trophy since the 1959-60 season. He remarked that claiming everything as an achievement of Prime Minister Modi has become a routine.

On Facebook, Ramamohan B.S. commented that whenever something positive happens, it is credited to Modi, while anything negative is blamed on former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He questioned whether political leaders could speak based on facts rather than politics.

Another user, Divya Gowda, said that Jammu and Kashmir has been playing in the Ranji Trophy since the 1950s and 1960s. She criticised the statement and urged leaders to verify facts before making public posts.

Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that it will target US technology companies operating in the region, urging employees and nearby residents to evacuate immediately.

In a statement carried by Iran’s Tasnim news agency, the IRGC said, “Since the main element in designing and tracking terrorist targets are American and ICT and AI companies … from now on, [these] main institutions will be our legitimate targets.”

The statement added that more than 15 companies could be targeted, including Boeing, Tesla, Meta, Google and Apple.

The IRGC said the action would begin from 8pm local time tomorrow if further Iranian leaders are killed in what it described as “targeted assassinations”.

There has been no immediate response from the companies named or from US authorities.

The warning marks a significant escalation, expanding potential targets beyond military and energy infrastructure to include major global technology firms.
