Former MLA Poornima Srinivas deserts BJP to join Congress
Bengaluru: Former BJP MLA from Hiriyur assembly constituency, Poornima Srinivas, along with her supporters, officially joined the Congress party here at the KPCC office on Monday.
Poornima who hails from an influential political family in the state. Her father, the late A Krishnappa, was a former minister and had been associated with the Congress for over three decades before joining the Janata Dal (Secular) in 2013.
BJP leaders including Poornima Srinivas, Srinivas and Narasimha Nayak along with a large number of their followers joined the party in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, DyCM D.K. Shivakumar.
Former Chief Minister Veerappa Moily, Special Representative of the State Government in Delhi T. B. Jayachandra, KPCC Working President Salim Ahmed, leaders Prof Rajeev Gowda, Naseer Ahmed, Nagaraj Yadav and others were present.
Poornima had publicly announced joining the Congress party earlier this month citing BJP’s failure to fulfill promises made to her community, the Yadava (Golla), a cow herd community. Simultaneously the leader also claimed that the Congress had decided to offer her husband D.T Srinivas, a MLC ticket from the teacher’s constituency.
In the meantime political analysts suggest that Poornima’s official entry into the Congress party is set to benefit the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Illegally stored gas cylinders seized
Thane (PTI): Authorities have seized illegally stored 1,839 gas cylinders and seven vehicles worth over Rs 67 lakh in the Dombivli MIDC area of Thane district, officials said on Saturday.
A special vigilance team of the Mumbai Rationing Department detected an illegal storage of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders in Phase-2 of Dombivli (East).
Cylinders belonging to multiple gas agencies were found stockpiled in closed vehicles, unauthorised warehouses, and open sheds without mandatory permissions from the Explosives Department, Fire Department, or oil companies, according to an official release.
