Bengaluru: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested a resident of Sullia taluk’s Sampaje in D.K district in the murder case of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh.
The arrested has been identified as 30-year-old Mohan Nayak. He was arrested from Dakshina Kannada district two days ago. Mohan Nayak was produced in a Bengaluru court on Thursday evening and remanded to 14 days SIT custody.
SIT investigation officer MN Anucheth has informed that Mohan who was arrested from D.K district is suspected to have handed over the 7.65mm gun to the alleged killer of Gauri Lankesh hours before the crime and rode the bike with suspected shooter Parashuram Waghmore.
Mohan was known for supplying home-made medicines in Kushal Nagar near Madikeri. It has been reported that people often come by car to meet him. But locals thought that people might be coming for medicines. According to reports, he was frequently telling people that he is going to Bengaluru.
The SIT sleuths from Bengaluru picked up Moahn Nayak from Mundadka in Sampaje at around 2 am on July 19.

New Delhi (PTI): Essar Group co-founder Shashi Ruia has died after a prolonged illness. He was 80.
Ruia, who co-founded metals-to-technology conglomerate Essar with his brother Ravi, died in Mumbai around 23.55 hrs on November 25, family sources said.
He had returned from the US, where he was undergoing treatment, about a month back.
His mortal remains will be kept at Ruia House from 1 pm to 3 pm on Tuesday. The funeral procession will leave from Ruia House at 4 pm towards the Hindu Worli Crematorium.
Shashi, a first-generation entrepreneur industrialist, started his career in 1965 under the guidance of his father Nand Kishore Ruia.
He, along with his brother Ravi, laid the foundation of Essar in 1969 by constructing an outer breakwater at Chennai Port. The group expanded into various sectors, including steel, oil refining, exploration and production, telecom, power, and construction.
He is survived by his wife Manju and two sons Prashant and Anshuman.
