Shivamogga: Actor Shivarajkumar’s wife and Congress leader Geetha Shivarajkumar has declared that she will not contest elections in the future.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Shivamogga District Women’s Congress president held at Banjar Convention Hall, she said, “I will not be contesting in elections anymore. But I will continue to remain active in the party organisation, work with you all and come whenever called.”

Geetha had earlier contested the Shivamogga Lok Sabha elections. While making her announcement, she congratulated Shweta Bandi, who took charge as the new district women’s Congress president. She praised Shweta for her hard work during the election campaign and said the gathering had brought her joy.

“Women are not weak. They have all the strength within them. They should bring everyone together and strengthen the party organisation. I may not contest elections again, but I will always stand firmly with all of you in the party,” Geetha reiterated.

New Delhi: Presenting the Union Budget 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday announced relief measures aimed at easing the financial burden on families and streamlining the tax framework.

She proposed reducing the Tax Collected at Source (TCS) on foreign remittances for education and medical purposes from 5 per cent to 2 per cent, a move expected to benefit students studying abroad and those seeking overseas medical treatment.

The finance minister also announced that the new Income Tax Act will come into effect from April 1, 2026, marking a major overhaul of the country’s direct tax system.
