Bengaluru: Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge, whose recent request to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to deny permission to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to hold its events on government premises and public places whipped up a controversy, has written a second letter to the CM with regard to the issue.
The minister, in a letter dated October 13, has asked the CM to ensure a circular is passed strictly prohibiting government employees from attending RSS programmes.
Kharge, in his letter, pointed out that, although Rule 5(1) of the Karnataka Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 2021 states that ‘no government servant should be a member of or associated with any political party or any organization that is involved in politics or participate in, contribute to or assist in any political movement or activity’, many government employees in Karnataka were participating in events and activities organized by either the RSS or other groups.
The minister said that state government employees should be banned from attending RSS or other organizations’ programmes.
He also urged the CM to direct the authorities concerned to issue circulars warning that disciplinary action would be taken against employees violating the order.
