Government planning to ban construction of new apartment buildings in Bengaluru: Karnataka Dy.CM
Bengaluru: With state capital reeling from water shortage during summer, the Karnataka government is ‘seriously’ considering clamping a five-year ban on constructions of new apartment buildings in Bengaluru, the Dy.CM and Bengaluru Development Minister Dr. G Parameshwara told media reporters here on Thursday.
“Bengaluru has numerous apartment complexes and many keep coming up. With builders of apartments going ahead with construction and sale of apartments without making adequate arrangements for a basic necessity like drinking water, the state government is seriously considering clamping a five-year ban on granting permissions for construction of apartments,” Dr G Parameshwara said.
“We will discuss the issue of imposing a five-year moratorium on permissions for construction of apartments with all builders and developers in the coming weeks and will make a decision,’’ he added.
He further added that officials have been asked to present a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Linganamakki Project, with which the government plans to divert water of Netravati River to Bengaluru, Kolar and Chikkaballapur for meeting the requirement of drinking water at these places.
As the Linganamakki proposal is facing opposition, steps will be taken after examining the pros and cons. This will happen only after DPR is ready,” he said.

Death toll in Mundathikode fireworks explosion rises to 16
Thrissur (Kerala) (PTI): One more person who had been hospitalised following the Mundathikode fireworks explosion died at Thrissur Medical College on Sunday, police said.
With this, the death toll in the incident has risen to 16.
According to Thrissur Medical College police, the deceased has been identified as Unnikrishnan from Edappal, who was among the 38 persons present at the fireworks manufacturing unit in Mundathikode where the explosions occurred on April 21.
Police said Unnikrishnan had suffered over 80 per cent burns and had remained in critical condition.
The condition of the two other injured persons remains critical, police said.
Of the 38 persons present at the site, 16 have died, while four remain missing.
The fireworks were being manufactured for Thiruvambady Devaswom as part of the Thrissur Pooram festivities.
The licensee of the unit had also suffered burn injuries and had died earlier.
