Gram panchayat poll candidate in Belagavi loses by one vote in recount too
Belagavi: A gram panchayat election candidate in Belagavi district, who had lost the contest by one vote in late 2020, has again experienced disappointment, losing out to his opponent in the recount too.
The elections to the Hebbal Gram Panchayat of Hukkeri taluk, Belagavi, were held on December 23, 2020. The results were announced on December 31, said sources.
Tavanappa Hosur had won by 506 votes, while Raosaheb Patil got 505 votes in the contest.
Patil had approached the JMFC court in Sankeshwara, complaining of irregularities in poll counting, the sources added.
As ordered by the court, the votes were recounted on Thursday, in the presence of the judge.
While Patil apparently was confident of winning the contest, the recount confirmed the victory of Hosur. Patil fell short of one vote now too, much to his disappointment.

Dharwad Corporation zonal offices raided after complaints of corruption in issuing land records
Hubballi: Karnataka Lokayukta officials on Friday conducted raids at multiple zonal offices of the Hubballi-Dharwad City Corporation following complaints alleging bribery and delay in issuing land-related documents, including e-Swathu records.
The raids were carried out in the morning under the leadership of Siddalingappa S.T.. Separate teams inspected 12 zonal offices of the Corporation and examined records linked to land ownership and document processing.
According to sources, the Lokayukta received complaints from members of the public alleging that Corporation officials were demanding bribes for issuing e-Swathu and other land documents.
Residents reportedly alleged that applications were being deliberately delayed if bribes were not paid.
Based on these complaints, officials carried out inspections of files and records connected to land ownership and issuance of documents.
Further investigation is underway.
