Group of 5 brutally attacks DMK leader MK Alagiri's aide Guruswamy in Bengaluru over old animosity
Bengaluru: A group of five people in the city brutally attacked VK Guruswamy, a resident of Madurai and a close associate of MK Alagiri, son of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi and leader of the DMK.
Guruswamy, who was grievously injured in the attack, is being treated at a hospital in Bengaluru and his condition is learned to be critical.
He was having tea at Hotel Sukh Sagar at Kammanahalli under the jurisdiction of the Banaswadi Police Station when the group, which had allegedly followed him in a car during his journey from Tamil Nadu to Bengaluru, barged into the hotel and attacked him with lethal weapons.
The police officers have said that Guruswamy has undergone a surgery at the hospital. "There was animosity for 35 years between Guruswamy and the group that attacked him. Several attempts had been made earlier too, to murder Guruswamy. On Monday, the group followed him all the way to Bengaluru and attacked him at the hotel. The scene of the assault has been recorded on the CCTV camera at the hotel and we are checking the footage," the police officers added.
DCP (East Division) Bheemashankar S Guled visited the crime spot for an investigation.

RCB pip CSK by two runs in last-ball IPL thriller
Bengaluru: Ayush Mhatre's 94 and Ravindra Jadeja's 77 not out went in vain as Royal Challengers Bengaluru pipped Chennai Super Kings by two runs in their IPL match here on Saturday.
Chasing 214, CSK scored 211 for 5 in their 20 overs.
Mhatre scored a 48-ball 94 with five sixes and nine fours while adding 114 runs with Jadeja (77 not out off 45 balls, 8x4s, 2x6s) for the second wicket.
For RCB, Lungi Ngidi returned with figures of 3/30.
Earlier, half-centuries from Jacob Bethell (55), Virat Kohli (62) and Romario Shepherd (53 not out) took RCB to 213 for five.
While Bethell and Kohli put on 97 runs for the opening wicket to set a platform, Shepherd blasted four fours and six sixes to make 53 not out off only 14 balls, recording the fastest fifty of the season and joint second-fastest overall.
For CSK, Matheesha Pathirana found his rhythm and lengths to return 3-0-36-3.
