Arakalagud: The Hassan Police has arrested a man for allegedly poisoning his parents, who fell seriously ill and subsequently died after consuming contaminated food in the Taluk’s Bisinahalli area.

The crime reportedly came to light during an investigation, which revealed that the arrested son poisoned his parents' food ( Pulav), as his parents opposed his illicit relationship.

The arrested son has been identified as Manjunath (27), whose parents have been identified as Uma(48) and Nanjundappa (55).

The incident reportedly happened on August 15, when both Uma and Nanjundappa having their lunch fell seriously ill, following which they were shifted to a hospital. After a few days, after undergoing treatment they were at home, however both of them passed away.

The Konanur Police, who had filed a case of unnatural causes of death, had arranged for post-mortem examinations for the deceased bodies prior to their cremation. During which it was revealed that the couple had actually been poisoned by their own son, leading to his arrest.

Bhatkal: More than 50 per cent of the members elected to the executive committee of Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem in its triennial elections are new faces, with a significant number of young members getting an opportunity in the organisation’s executive committee.

Polling for eight constituencies in different parts of Bhatkal was held on May 12, in which 24 members were elected. In addition, 20 members were elected unopposed from seven constituencies.

The keenest contest was witnessed in Constituency No. 14, where 10 candidates were in the fray for five seats.

With this, the process of electing members to the organisation’s 132-member executive council from Bhatkal and other regions has been completed.

Election Commissioner Mohiuddin Altaf Kharoori said the induction of a large number of new members into the executive committee has brought fresh enthusiasm to the organisation.
