Vijayapura: Continuous rainfall for the past two days has thrown life out of gear across Vijayapura district. The situation has worsened due to heavy downpour in neighbouring Maharashtra, leading to severe floods in the Krishna and Bhima river belts.
The overflowing Bhima river has caused massive flooding, submerging several villages and spreading panic among residents along the riverbank. Villages including Devanagaw, Tavarakhed, Byadagihal, Kumasagi, Shembewad, Kadlewad and Shirasgi have been inundated, with water entering houses and surrounding entire localities. Families trapped in these areas are being shifted to safer places.
Relief centres have been set up in Tavarakhed, Kumasagi and Tarapur villages to accommodate the displaced. In Almel taluk’s Kumasagi village alone, more than 30 houses have been fully submerged, with food grains and household valuables washed away. Affected families have moved to relief camps.
In one such incident, eight people stranded in floodwaters of the Bhima River at Tavarakhed were rescued by Sindagi fire and emergency personnel.
Meanwhile, in Vijayapura city, heavy rains have brought normal life to a standstill. Continuous downpour has left people confined to their homes, struggling with waterlogging and disruption in daily activities.
