Kalaburagi: A 16-year-old girl Sania Tamboli died and four other children sustained serious injuries in an incident of wall collapse due to intense rainfall reported from Yadrami town on Monday.

The victim’s siblings Mehboob, Nishad, Ayesha and Ranjhanabi, who got caught under the debris, are injured but out of danger, according to the locals.

The wall reportedly collapsed at around 2:30 am on Monday, trapping the five children under the debris. Four of them were immediately brought out safely, but it took extra time to get Sania out. Eye-witnesses have said that, although Sania, who was grievously injured, was rushed to the Yadrami Taluk Hospital, none of the doctors there was available to treat the girl, which resulted in her death.

The locals have alleged that the girl lost her life due to lack of facilities, including emergency treatment, at the taluk hospital. They have demanded that the local legislator, and concerned district and taluk-level authorities not only offer condolence to the bereaved family but also give them Rs 25 lakh as ex gratia.

The people are staging a protest placing Sania’s body outside the taluk hospital and demanding justice for the girl’s family.
