Kalaburagi: 93-yr-old woman prisoner let out on parole as directed by Upalokayukta Justice Veerappa
Kalaburagi: A 93-year-old woman prisoner at the Kalaburagi District Prison, who had developed health problems on account of age and needed the help of a nurse to attend to her, was released on parole on Thursday.
Upalokayukta Justice B Veerappa, who visited the prison on November 16, said that he was shocked by the condition of the bed-ridden and ill prisoner, Nagamma Annarao. He asked the officers of the Legal Services Authority to file a plea in the Supreme Court for the release of Nagamma. He also asked the Kalaburagi Jail Superintendent and Superintendent of Police to release the prisoner on parole for three months, till the Supreme Court reviewed the case and passed its judgement.
Nagamma was released on a temporary basis from the Kalaburagi District Prison, with her daughters arriving at the prison on Friday to take her home.
The Upalokayukta expressed happiness when informed of the developments in the matter.

DMK seeks separate seating in Lok Sabha after split with Congress alliance
New Delhi: Kanimozhi Karunanidhi has written to the Lok Sabha Speaker seeking a separate seating arrangement for Members of Parliament belonging to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) following the end of the party’s alliance with the Indian National Congress.
In a letter dated May 7 addressed to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Kanimozhi said the changed political situation made it inappropriate for DMK MPs to continue sitting alongside Congress members in the House.
She requested the Speaker to make “suitable changes” in the seating arrangement of the DMK Parliamentary Party and allot separate seating for its MPs.
“In view of the changed political circumstances and as our alliance with the Indian National Congress has come to an end, it may not be appropriate for our Members to continue occupying the present seating arrangement alongside them in the House,” the letter stated.
Kanimozhi further said separate seating would help DMK members effectively discharge their responsibilities in the Lok Sabha.
