Kalaburagi: A shocking case of honour killing has been reported from Melakunda (B) village in Kalaburagi taluk, where a father allegedly strangled his 18-year-old daughter and set her body on fire for being in love with a man from another caste.

The victim has been identified as Kavita Shankar Kollur (18). Police said the main accused, her father Shankar Kollur, along with two other relatives, is absconding and efforts are on to arrest them.

According to police sources, Kavita was in a relationship with a youngster from another caste in the same village. Despite repeated warnings from her family, she continued the relationship. Enraged over her defiance, the family allegedly murdered her and later attempted to burn the body to destroy evidence.

Investigations revealed that the two communities involved had a history of hostility, and the family feared social disgrace if Kavita’s relationship continued. Police suspect this was the motive behind the killing.

Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa S.D. and senior officials visited the spot and conducted an inquiry. A case has been registered at Farhatabad police station, and further investigation is underway.
