Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday asserted that the State Government will not allow Tipu Jayanti celebrations in the state. He further added he will take a decision soon on the proposal to remove Tipu Sultan’s history from the textbooks of state syllabus.

Speaking at a press conference at Bengaluru Press Club on Wednesday, Yediyurappa questioned reporters if they know how much of pain he has had in the hundred days of his government in the state. He also assured that his government will complete full term and will provide stable and good governance for next three and half years.

The BJP leader’s comment on Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan has not gone down well with many in the opposition. Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly, Siddaramaiah responding to the remarks added that removing Tipu from the history textbooks will amount to distortion of History.

“BJP always try to distort facts of History. It should not be done and the future generations be told about what happened in history” Siddaramaiah said.

“Tipu fought against the British. Isn’t it true?” the former CM of Karnataka questioned reporters.

“Only the BJP says Tipu was a fanatic, Tipu was not a fanatic, BJP is fanatic” Siddaramaiah told reporters in Bagalkot
