Bengaluru: The High Court has issued a stay on the caste abuse case that had been filed against actor and director Upendra.

The development followed a hearing of the petition submitted by Upendra, in which he sought the nullification of the First Information Report (FIR) lodged against him. Subsequently, the High Court ordered a stay on the caste abuse case that was filed against Upendra.

The incident that led to this legal proceeding involved Upendra's discussion of his political party, Uttama Prajakeeya Party, during a live session on Facebook. He remarked, "If there is a town, it inevitably will have Dalits."

This statement sparked offense within the Dalit community, triggering allegations of caste insensitivity. As a result, a police complaint was filed by an individual named Madhusudan, who demanded the registration of a case against Upendra under the Prevention of Atrocities Act. Consequently, a case pertaining to caste abuse was registered against Upendra at both CK Atchukattu Police Station and Halasur Gate Station.
