Bengaluru: The Karnataka Nataka Academy has announced the annual awards for the year 2025–26, and Shashidhar Adapa B. of Dakshina Kannada district has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Twenty-five achievers including journalist and writer G.N. Mohan, and Sugandhi Umesh Kalmadi have been selected for the Annual Award.
Annual awardees: G.N. Mohan, Malatesh Badiger, T. Raghu, Venkatachal, Murtujasaba Ghattiganura, Channakeshava Murthy M., Gopal Yallappa Unkal, Chickappaiah, Devaraj Halageri, Y.S. Siddaramaiah Gowda, Arun Kumar R.T., Rohini Raghunandan, Ratna Sakleshpur, V.N. Ashwath, Shivayya Swami Bibbli, K.R. Poornendra Shekhar, Bheemanagowda B. Katavi, K. Murali, Muthuraj, Mallesh B. Konal, Sugandhi Umesh Kalmadi, Mahesh V. Patil, Shivaputrappa Shivasimpi, Sadyojata Shastri Hiremath, and Dr. Uday S.R. (Sosale) have been selected for the award.
For the Annual Award pending for the year 2024–25, Shankar Bhatt, H.V. Manjappa (P.A. for Venkatasubbaiah Endowment Award), Kiran Ratnakara Nayka (B.R. Arishinakodi Endowment Award), K.C.V. Lokesha (Ramachandraiah Endowment Award), H.P. Iswarachari (Malathisree Mysuru Endowment Award), Doddamane Venkatesh (Natarathna Chindodi Veerappan Endowment Award), and P.V. Krishnappa (Padmashree Chindodi Leela Endowment Award), Cultured Comedian K. Hirannaya Endowment – Nagendra Prasad has been selected for the award.

Kasaragod: An 18-year-old girl was allegedly hacked to death by her father following a family dispute at Kunjathur, Thuminad near Manjeshwara on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Jumaila, a resident of Thuminad. Police said the accused, Umar Farooq, has been arrested in connection with the murder.
According to police sources, Jumaila was found lying in a pool of blood after neighbours rushed to the house on hearing her screams.
She was shifted to a hospital, but doctors declared her dead.
Locals said that Umar Farooq, who had been working abroad, returned to the village about three months ago.
Since his return, the family had been involved in frequent disputes, reportedly over property-related issues.
Police officials visited the spot and have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
