Bengaluru: The Kerala music band Thaikkudam Bridge has accused the production team of Kannada movie ‘Kantara’ of plagiarism and warned that the band would take legal action for violation of copyright laws.

On Monday, the band posted on Instagram that the tune of the song ‘Varaha Roopam’ in ‘Kantara’ has been copied from their song ‘Navarasam’, reported India Today.

It has also said that the band is not affiliated with ‘Kantara’ in any way, adding that the similarities between their song and that in the movie would be ‘a blatant infringement of copyright laws’.

Pointing out that ‘plagiarism’ cannot be equated with ‘inspired’, the band has said on Instagram, “We will be seeking legal action against the creative team responsible for this. There has been no acknowledgement of our rights over the content and the song is propagated as an Original piece of work by the movie's creative team.”

Thaikkudam Bridge has requested listeners as well as other artistes to spread awareness on the matter and help the band protect its creations.
