Koppal: Deputy Commissioner Suresh Itnal has suspended a government school teacher from Joolakunti village for failing to perform his duties in the ongoing Social and Educational Survey, commonly referred to as the caste census, being conducted by the Karnataka Backward Classes Commission.
The teacher, identified as Ramappa Talavara of the Government Higher Primary School in Joolakunti, was assigned to collect data in designated areas as part of the survey. However, according to officials, he had not carried out any survey work so far. His absence came to light after survey supervisors and senior officers were unable to reach him, with his mobile phone switched off for the past two days.
Survey Supervisor Davalasab Mulla, CRP, submitted a report on Talavara’s non-compliance, following which the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the matter and ordered his immediate suspension.

New Delhi: Presenting the Union Budget 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday announced relief measures aimed at easing the financial burden on families and streamlining the tax framework.
She proposed reducing the Tax Collected at Source (TCS) on foreign remittances for education and medical purposes from 5 per cent to 2 per cent, a move expected to benefit students studying abroad and those seeking overseas medical treatment.
The finance minister also announced that the new Income Tax Act will come into effect from April 1, 2026, marking a major overhaul of the country’s direct tax system.
