Shimoga: Former Deputy Chief Minister KS Eshwarappa remains resolute in his decision to contest as an independent candidate from the Shimoga constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, despite efforts by the Sangh Parivar to persuade him otherwise.

Reports indicate that Sangh Parivar leader Gopal contacted Eshwarappa from Ayodhya to convince him to withdraw from the election race. However, Eshwarappa reiterated his stance, stating that he will contest independently and not withdraw for any reason.

Addressing media representatives at Rachateshwara Mutt in Belaragi, Shimoga, Eshwarappa expressed his opposition to family politics within the BJP. He highlighted the denial of tickets to leaders like C T Ravi, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, and Nalin Kumar Kateel, while criticizing Prime Minister Modi for allowing BS Yediyurappa's son to contest in Karnataka, contrary to Modi's stance against family politics in the Congress party.

Eshwarappa confirmed that he will not attend Prime Minister Modi's conference today, reaffirming his decision to contest independently. Despite attempts by central leaders to persuade him, Eshwarappa remains steadfast in his resolve.

Efforts by BJP's state in-charge Radha Mohan Das Agrawal to persuade Eshwarappa have been unsuccessful. Meanwhile, BJP state president Vijayendra said that the final decision rests with the people and Yediyurappa refused to talk to Eshwarappa. It is now apparent that the state BJP and the party's high command have abandoned efforts to persuade Eshwarappa.
