K'taka CM reiterates commitment to complete Mekedatu project despite opposition from Tamil Nadu
Ballari (Karnataka)(PTI): Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said the plan on Mekedatu balancing reservoir across Cauvery would go ahead despite the statements issued by politicians in neighbouring Tamil Nadu that, he said, mislead the people of that State.
"Water for the Mekedatu project and its planning are not in the hands of Tamil Nadu. Hence the statements of political leaders and their resolutions have no meaning. Though they know this fact, they are doing it to mislead their people politically," Bommai told reporters here on the sidelines of an event.
Charging the politicians in Tamil Nadu with bringing in politics, Bommai said,"There is no change in our stand, our efforts, and our legal fight. Mekedatu project will happen."
Mekedatu is a multi-purpose (drinking and power) project, which involves building a balancing reservoir near Kanakapura in Ramanagara district.
Tamil Nadu has been opposing the project, raising apprehensions that the State would be affected if the project takes shape.
The project, once completed, is aimed at ensuring drinking water to Bengaluru and neighbouring areas (4.75 TMC) and also can generate 400 MW power, and the estimated cost of the project is Rs 9,000 crore.

Samson's unbeaten 87 powers CSK to eight-wicket win over DC
New Delhi (PTI): Sanju Samson bossed the chase with authority, anchoring a modest 156-run target with a fluent 87 not out as Chennai Super Kings outclassed Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in the IPL here on Tuesday.
Samson's knock came off just 52 balls with seven fours and six sixes, batting through the innings as CSK completed the chase in just 17.3 overs giving a huge boost to their net run-rate.
Electing to bat on a tricky surface, Delhi Capitals were restricted to 155/7.
West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein set the tone with the new ball, returning tidy figures of 1/19, including 14 dot balls.
Reduced to 69/5 in 11 overs, Delhi found some late impetus through Tristan Stubbs (38; 31 balls) and Sameer Rizvi (40 not out; 24 balls), who stitched together a crucial 65-run (off 47 balls) stand to give the innings a respectable total.
