Sakleshpur: The Hassan-Mangaluru trains were halted late Friday night following a landslide between kilometer markers 42 and 43 near Ballupete of Sakleshpur taluk that resulted in not only a heavy load of soil but also trees falling on the railway line.
Six trains on the route, at six major points like Sakleshpur, Yedakumeri, Shiribagilu and Aldur were stayed, to prevent casualties due to the landslide on the railway track nearing midnight on Friday.
Thousands of passengers who travel in these trains have not only been stranded but also struggling to find other ways to reach their destination. Officers of the South Western Railways are making arrangements to provide them alternative means of transport.
The concerned officials are also working at clearing the debris from the railway track.
