Chikmagaluru, August 19: Following heavy rains in Mudigere taluk limits, landslides occurred in four places on Kudremukh- Mangaluru national highway leaving the road completely covered in the mud on Sunday. As a result, the vehicular movement was suspended from morning to evening on the road.
Kalasa, Kudremukh, Samse, Jambale and surrounding places in Mudigere taluk have been receiving heavy rains since Saturday night. This has led to landslide on the road.
As the vehicular movement was suspended on the road, the vehicles plying to Mangaluru and Dharmasthala from Chikmagalur, Sringeri, Horanadu, Kalasa and Kudremukh were queued up on either side of the road since morning. Since the vehicles were queued up on the road, the vehicles were unable to move either backward or forward. As the Deputy Commissioner has banned the vehicular movement on Charmadi ghat road on Saturday, the vehicles leaving for Mangaluru have opted Kottigehara and Kudremukh road which caused heavy traffic.
Kudremukh division forest department, police and fire brigade personnel and public have been working on removing the mud covered the road. But they could not carry out the work due to heavy rains. Mudigere MLA MP Kumaraswamy visited the place where mud was removing. By evening, the road was cleared and police took maximum care to clear the traffic without any hassle by evening.
