Kundapura, September 9: A male leopard fell accidentally into a well while hunting a dog at Kallumakki of Kulunge village in the taluk on Sunday morning was rescued by the Forest department.

On Sunday late night, the leopard came for hunting a dog and while carrying the dog from the courtyard of the house of Kallumakki Raghuram Kulal, the leopard fell into the open well. However, the dog escaped from falling into the well. But it sustained leopard bites.

Listening to the sound, Raghuram came out of the house and noticed the leopard drowning in the well. Suddenly, Raghuram put banana trunks to help the leopard from drowning in the water. Later, he informed the Shankaranarayana forest department which rushed to the spot with net and a cage. The entire well was covered with the net and later, the cage was released into the well. The leopard which was swimming with the help of banana trunks, entered into the cage and trapped.

The leopard catching operation which started at 1.30 am, completed at 5 am. The leopard aged between three-four years was taken along with the cage and released in the Reserve Forest.

Shankarnarayan Ranger A.A Gopal, Assistant Ranger Harish K, Forest guards Gururaj Nayak, Srikanth, Ravi Goliyangadi, Santosh, Jogi, forest watchers Shivu, Chandru, Laxman, and Samruddhi Youth Association members participated in the operation. Gram panchayat President Ravi Kulal cooperated with the forest staff.

Bengaluru: A life convict lodged in Ballari Central Prison has successfully cleared the second PUC examination.

Ashok Kumar S, who appeared for the examination under prison escort, secured 481 marks out of 600, registering 80.1 percent. 

Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services), Alok Kumar (IPS), shared the development on his official ‘X’ handle, commending the inmate’s achievement.

In his post, he stated that it was heartening to see a life convict score over 80 percent in the examination, adding that the inmate had appeared from Ballari Central Prison under escort.

He further noted that the achievement reflected that the “walls of the prison have not subdued his hopes for a better future.”

Alok Kumar in his post also shared the result sheet of Ashok. 

The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) declared the second PUC results for 2026 on April 9.

A total of 6,32,200 students appeared for the examination across all streams, of whom 5,46,698 passed, recording an overall pass percentage of 86.48 per cent.
