Chikmagalur: A Court on Saturday granted bail to the youth who was handed over to the police by Bajrang Dal alleging that he was shouting anti-national slogans here in Chickmagalur.

Following the news of Yunus, the accused, securing bail Bajrang Dal activist stormed to the police station and protested against the police for taking the incident lightly.

On Friday, members of Sangh Parivar had handed Yunus, a tourist from Chitradurga to police alleging that they caught him while shouting anti-national slogans. The police had arrested Yunus and he was presented before the court on Saturday where he was granted bail.

The police had booked Yunus under section 153 A, 504 and 506 of Indian Penal Code. On Saturday Bajrang Dal activists insisted that he must have been booked under section 124 A, which amounts to sedition.

Taking note of the situation, Chikmagalur SP, Harish Pandey, came out hard on the Bajrang Dal activists and asked the right-wing activists to not interfere in the matters of police as the department knew its duty and was duly fulfilling it.

Bengaluru: Rajagopal Nagar Police have arrested five men for their alleged involvement in the murder of a 24-year-old man on April 21, following a clash over pigeons.

Darshan (28), Surendra (27), Mahendra (29), Vijay (26) and Darshan (26), learned to be residents of Laggere in Nandini Layout, have been arrested. Police have said that they are looking for four other suspects in the crime, who are still absconding.

Bengaluru DCP (North West) DL Nagesh has said that the victim Mallikarjun Rao’s friend Prashanth had been rearing pigeons and the suspects had allegedly stolen the birds. On Tuesday, April 21 night, Prashanth, accompanied by Rao, came to Laggere to ask the suspects regarding the theft of the birds.

A fight occurred at the point, with the suspects attacking Rao with lethal weapons and murdering him, the senior officer has said.
