Hubballi, May 7: Former speaker in Lok Sabha, Meira Kumar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is claiming that it is BJP which made Ramanath Kovind as the first dalit president of the country, has no memory because, before Kovind, KR Narayan was the first president belonging to dalit community.
Hitting out at Modi’s claim here on Monday, she told reporters that she has never seen such a prime minister who has been lying continuously, before. The Congress has never insulted Dr BR Ambedkar. Jawaharlal Nehru had appointed Dr BR Ambedkar as the first Law Minister in his cabinet. Later, he was made the chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee. Such kind of lies would not suit to the personality of Modi, she said.
The BJP has involved in communal politics. The country has eight major religions and it is the responsibility of the government to establish communal harmony between those religions. But the BJP government has been trying to divide them for its gains. The centre has completely failed to check illegal incidents like rapes and harassments on dalits in the country. The gang rape on an eight year-old girl in Kathua is a shame on part of the country, she said.
The Karnataka state has developed under the leadership of Siddaramaiah. But Prime Minister Modi has spoken against Bengaluru and its name. The people of Karnataka should reject the BJP which has been doing divisive politics, she said.

ISLAMABAD: At least two more cases of poliovirus were reported in Pakistan, taking the number of infections to 52 so far this year, a report said on Friday.
“The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the detection of two more wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases in Pakistan," an official statement said.
The fresh infections — a boy and a girl — were reported from the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
“Genetic sequencing of the samples collected from the children is underway," the statement read. Dera Ismail Khan, one of the seven polio-endemic districts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has reported five polio cases so far this year.
Of the 52 cases in the country this year, 24 are from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 13 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
There is no cure for polio. Only multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and completion of the routine vaccination schedule for all children under the age of five can keep them protected.
