Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has charged that the Modi government has destroyed the developments achieved by the UPA government in four years.

Speaking to reporters today in Bengaluru, Singh said the Modi led NDA government did not handle the economy properly.

"Prime Minister Modi hasn't held a single press conference in the last four years. That itself is a reflection of the state of affairs," the former prime minister remarked.

"Our nation today is experiencing difficult times. Our farmers are facing an acute crisis, our aspirational youth are not finding opportunities, and the economy is growing below its potential," Singh said. He said the "unfortunate truth" was that each of these crises was "entirely avoidable".

“It is shocking that a prime minister stoops so low and uses such language and phraseology which is unbecoming of a prime minister, particularly when he is in a state where elections are taking place. No prime minister has used election time to say things in manner that Modiji has been trying. I sincerely hope he will now learn a lesson and not seek to polarise the society," Mr. Singh added.

When asked about various issues, the Prime Minister blames 70 years of Congress rule. He has forgotten the Green Revolution and have forgotten the UPA government’s policies that have brought millions of people out of poverty, “Mr. Singh said.

ISLAMABAD: At least two more cases of poliovirus were reported in Pakistan, taking the number of infections to 52 so far this year, a report said on Friday.

“The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the detection of two more wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases in Pakistan," an official statement said.

The fresh infections — a boy and a girl — were reported from the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

“Genetic sequencing of the samples collected from the children is underway," the statement read. Dera Ismail Khan, one of the seven polio-endemic districts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has reported five polio cases so far this year.

Of the 52 cases in the country this year, 24 are from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 13 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.

There is no cure for polio. Only multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and completion of the routine vaccination schedule for all children under the age of five can keep them protected.
