Shivamogga: Fears of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), commonly known as monkey disease, have resurfaced in the Malnad region following the death of a suspected patient from Thirthahalli taluk.
The deceased, a resident of a plantation near Kattehakku, had been suffering from severe illness for about a week. He was initially admitted to JC Hospital in Thirthahalli. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to a private hospital in Mangaluru for advanced treatment.
Despite medical intervention, the patient did not respond to treatment and died around 2.30 am on Tuesday.
Health officials suspect that the death could be linked to KFD, making it the first suspected KFD-related fatality in the region this year. However, confirmation is awaited pending test results.
Authorities have been urged to take immediate precautionary measures to prevent the possible spread of the disease.
