Shivamogga, Jan 24: It seems the panic created by the Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) in the Malnad region is not dying down as the death of monkeys continued today also. Out of seven taluks in the district, six taluks except Shivamogga affected with the KFD. Two more caracas's of monkeys were found in Hosanagara taluk, while the samples of another two monkeys were tested positive with KFD virus and in thirthahalli taluk, a government doctor afflicted with KFD virus was admitted to a hospital.

Caracas's of monkeys were also found in Gudodi in Vijapura village in Maruthipura grama Panchayat limits and Aralikoppa village in M. Guddekoppa grama Panchayat limits in the taluk. Veterinary Doctors and health department staff have been visiting the villages and enquired. After the postmortem, the caracas's of monkeys were burnt, sources said.

So far, 48 monkeys died in the taluk, but the KFD virus found in only three monkeys. Anti-KFD vaccination was administered in three gram Panchayat limits, health department sources said.

Bhadravathi report

People in Bhadravathi taluk are also fearing of affecting with the KFD virus. KFD virus found in the caracas's traced in Sanklipura, Dodderi and Belligeri villages and this has left the locals with sleepless nights. Meanwhile, the blood samples of three patients who got treatment for fever in Sanklipura were sent to lab test.

As KFD virus found in the caracas's, taluk health department officials held a meeting to discuss on precautionary measures to be taken.

Thirthahalli report

A doctor trying to treat the KFD patients was afflicted with KFD virus. Dr. Ramesh of Mandagadde primary health center was admitted to Manipal hospital for treatment.

Belagavi (Karnataka) (PTI): Two people were killed, and another was severely injured after a goods vehicle transporting poultry birds allegedly rammed into a stationary truck on a national highway in Belagavi in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Wasim (28) and Mubarak (22), both natives of Shivamogga district, they said.

The driver of the vehicle, Basavaraj Eerappa Hanchinamani (37), suffered critical injuries and has been admitted to a hospital, police said.

According to police, the accident occurred when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, allegedly due to drowsiness, and crashed into a truck parked along the highway.

The goods vehicle was en route from Kolhapur to Sorab in Shivamogga district, carrying poultry. Several chickens were also killed in the impact, a senior police officer said.

Police personnel from the Hirebagewadi Police Station visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Injured people and the bodies of the deceased were shifted to a hospital, police added.
