Moodbidri: The Moodbidri Court has granted bail to the prime accused in a major job fraud case involving promises of overseas employment. The accused had allegedly duped several people from Moodbidri and other parts of Dakshina Kannada district of more than ₹1 crore under the pretext of arranging medical job visas abroad.

The court on Thursday granted bail to Prakruti U., 34, a resident of Bengaluru. Her alleged associate, Alton Rebello, 42, from Church Road, Gangolli in Kundapur, has been remanded to judicial custody after being produced before the court by the police.

According to police sources, the accused promised attractive job offers and employment visas abroad to several residents of the Kavoor police limits. Believing these claims, many people transferred large sums of money to the accused’s bank accounts. However, when the promised jobs failed to materialize, the victims approached the police and filed complaints.

In one such case, a resident of Kinnigoli alleged that the accused promised a medical employment visa in the Netherlands for his son. When the visa was not issued, the complainant’s relative, Kevin Pinto, demanded a refund. The accused, Prakruti, allegedly assured repayment within a week but failed to do so.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Prakruti and her associate had similarly cheated several others across the district, using the same modus operandi. Multiple victims from Moodbidri have registered complaints with the local police station.

Advocate Roopa Ballal, a young lawyer from Moodbidri, represented the accused Prakruti in court.
