Namma metro extends services for New year’s eve; MG road station to remain shut after 10 pm
Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced the extension of metro services across the Purple, Green and Yellow lines on the night of December 31.
In order to facilitate safe travel post-midnight celebrations, trains services will continue into the early hours of January 1, 2026. The timings of the last metro services from the respective stations are as follows:
On the Purple Line, the last train from Whitefield towards Challaghatta will depart at 1.45 am, while the final service from Challaghatta to Whitefield will leave at 2.00 am.
On the Green Line, the last trains from Madavara to Silk Institute and from Silk Institute to Madavara will both depart at 2.00 am.

Meanwhile, on the Yellow Line, the last train from R.V. Road to Bommasandra will depart at 3.10 am, while the final service from Bommasandra to R.V. Road will leave at 1.30 am.
Additionally, the last metro services from Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station, Majestic, towards all four terminal stations, Whitefield and Challaghatta on the Purple Line, and Madavara and Silk Institute on the Green Line, will depart at 2.45 am.
After 11:30 PM, The trains will operate at a 8-minute frequency on purple line and green line and 15-minute frequency on Yellow line.
MG Road station to be closed
According to an official release from the BMRCL, MG road station will remain closed for entry and exit from 10.00 pm on December 31, in view of the large gatherings expected in the area due to New Year celebrations, pubs and events.
However, metro trains will continue to halt at the adjacent Trinity and Cubbon Park stations for both entry and exit.
In addition, to avoid long queues at ticket counters, token sales at Trinity and Cubbon Park metro stations will be discontinued after 11.00 pm on December 31.
Passengers travelling after 11.00 pm from these stations have been advised to purchase return journey tickets in advance through QR tickets or use smart cards with sufficient balance.

Two women from Telangana die in road accident in US
Hyderabad (PTI): Even death could not separate two childhood friends from Telangana, who lost their lives in a road accident in the United States.
The victims, Meghana Rani and K Bhavana, both aged 24 and natives of Mahabubabad district, died in a car accident in Bishop City, California, at around 3 am (IST) on Monday, while they were on a tour, according to information received by their family members.
"They were classmates in school, during their BTech and later during their Master’s studies in the US," Meghana’s cousin Mani Kumar told PTI.
After completing engineering from a private college in Hyderabad, the two went to the US in 2022 and completed their MS degrees there, he said, adding that they were currently looking for jobs.
According to him, friends in the US informed the families about the accident.
BRS Rajya Sabha member Vaddiraju Ravichandra expressed grief over the deaths.
He spoke to the parents of the deceased and assured them that he would take up the matter with the concerned officials to facilitate the return of the mortal remains, according to a press release.
Bhavana’s father, Kadiyala Koteswara Rao, is the Upa Sarpanch of Mulkanoor village, while Meghana’s father, Prallakhandam Venkata Nageswara Rao, runs a ‘Mee Seva’ citizen service centre as a franchisee, the release added.
