Madikeri: Government officials in the Kodagu district have refuted the news and rumours that minor tremors were felt in certain parts of the district on Friday.
Messages that such tremors were felt in places like Basavathoor, Hebbale, Hakke and Huluse of Kushalnagar early Friday morning were being shared on social media, giving rise to fear among the people, some of whom also claimed to have heard a loud sound at around 6.35 in the morning on Friday along with a two-second tremor, reports Deccan Herald.
In contrast, however, some of the locals concurred that they heard a loud noise, but denied feeling any tremor.
When asked about the matter, Tahsildar Kiran Gauraiah clarified that no local resident had complained to the officers about feeling tremors. The tahsildar added that sources in the Kodagu District Disaster Management Authority too said the matter was not brought to their notice by the locals.
It may be noted that two of the areas in Kodagu, where the claims of tremor are being made the most, Hebbale and Basavanthoor, are only 15 km away from the Harangi dam.
