Bengaluru: The Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG) in its report has pointed out that there was a substantial shortage of teachers, including the shortage of mathematics teachers in 642 high schools in the state.
The report, which has found failures in implementing the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) scheme and utilizing the available fund, has said that the role of teachers was important in the quality of education.
There is a rule that there should be 40 students in each class. However, in 2,721 schools, the ratio ranges from 1:41 to 1:61. In addition, there is a rule that there must be a teacher for every 30 pupils. However, in the report, PTR was higher than 1:30 in 874 schools.
Between 2016-18, science and math kits total of worth 2.39 crore had to be purchased under the Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan (RAA) to promote interest in science and maths in children to make the learning meaningful. However, the CAG report stated that the purchase has not been made

Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court has issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following the filing of application by Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni and Chandrashekhar Indi challenging the life imprisonment awarded to them by the Special Court for murder of BJP Dharwad leader Yogish Gowda.
The divisional bench comprising Justices Muhammad Nawaz and T Venkatesh Naik heard the pleas filed by Kulkarni on April 15 and Chandrashekhar Indi also called Chandu Mama on April 16.
The bench has now issued a notice to the CBI and also directed the HC Registry to obtain the trial court documents before adjourning the hearing.
