Old age pension to be hiked to Rs 5,000 per month within my period: C.M. Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru, October 01: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said that within his tenure of the government, he would increase the old age pension to Rs 5,000 per month in the state.
Inaugurating the World Senior Citizens Day-2018, organized by the Physically Disabled and Senior Citizens Empowerment Department at the Ravindra Kalakshetra here on Monday, he said that he was planning to give Rs 5,000 monthly pension to the senior citizens this year. But due to various challenges like loan waiver and others, he has increased the old age pension from Rs 600 to Rs 1,000 per month. Every year, Rs 1,000 would be increased and by the time, his tenure would come to an end, the pension would be increased to Rs 5,000, he said.
The incentive of Rs 6,000 per month to pregnant women and puerperal women would be given from November 1 and initially, Rs 2,000 incentive would be given and it would be increased to Rs 6,000 per month, he said.
Some people have been alleging that the coalition government has done nothing other than waiving off the farm loans. Unfortunately, the pro-people programmes of the government were not being given much publicity in the media. So, the people would not know about those programmes. Media should highlight the pro-people programmes, he said.
The government has released Rs 1,200 crore to provide basic infrastructure in government schools and colleges across the state. So far, the residential schools were restricted to only Dalit students. But now, 25 per cent seats were being given to all castes students. With the help of Janata Darshan programmes, more than 80 per cent problems would be sorted out on the spot. But those programmes were not being highlighted in the media, he said.
Woman and Child Welfare Minister Dr. Jayamala said that out of total 57.92 lakh senior citizens, only 36.66 lakhs were registered. In future, the government was mulling online system to register all the senior citizens and provide them the benefits. Currently, 25 day old age homes were there in the state and it was planning to increase them in coming days. It was planning to establish a well-equipped old age homes in each Revenue division, he said.
Yenepoya Medical College, Dr BV Markhande Udupi, Sadashiva Siddappa Belagali, Dr. P.S. Shankar, Chindodi Bangaresh, Dr. Vijayalakshmi Deshamane, Mahadevi Hullur, Jagadamba were given the senior citizens state awards-2018 on the occasion.
“In order to convert the foot-bridge into well-equipped bridges in coastal and Malnad areas like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga and Chikmagaluru, the state government has released Rs 121 crore. This would help the students of these regions to go to schools”.

The youth of the villages have been migrating to cities deserting their parents in search of jobs. They do not have patience or love to return to their villages and look after their parents”.

RCB beat MI by 18 runs after batters fire
Mumbai (PTI): Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Rajat Patidar, Phil Salt and Virat Kohli blasted half-centuries as the defending champions beat Mumbai Indians by 18 runs in an Indian Premier League match here on Sunday.
Salt (78 off 36 balls) and Kohli (50 off 38 balls) stitched together a 120-run stand for the opening wicket before Patidar scored a rapid 53 off just 20 balls as RCB posted 240 for 4.
In response, Mumbai Indians were restricted to 222 for 5, with RCB spinner Suyash Sharma (2/47) putting the skids on the home side with a double strike in the eighth over, from which they could not recover.
Sherfane Rutherford top-scored for MI with an unbeaten 71 off 31 balls.
While opener Rohit Sharma appeared to be struggling with a hamstring issue and had to retire hurt on 19, his partner Ryan Rickelton made 37, while Suryakumar Yadav (33) and Hardik Pandya (40) were the other contributors for MI.
