Kalaburagi: Minister for Social Welfare in the state’s coalition government and son of Veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyank Kharge on Saturday challenged BJP. He said that even PM Modi contesting against his father will lose the election.

He was answering a question by a local reporter whether Umesh Jadhav, a former Congressman who rebelled the Cong-JDS coalition and left the party, and is now supposed to contest the LS election against Mallikarjun Kharge, will be a tough contender for his father.

Priyank added “Even if Narendra Modi contest against my father, the PM will lose out and my father will win the election”.

Jadhav, who belongs from Banjara community which dominates the vote share in the Gulbarga constituency, and speculations are rife that BJP will field him from the constituency for 2019 elections against the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.

Priyank also answered question regarding Sumalatha Ambareesh contesting the election from Mandya constituency.

He added “That decision will be taken by party high command and coalition leaders Dinesh Gundu Rao, H D Deve Gowda and Siddaramaiah”.

Khunti (PTI): Six persons have been arrested for allegedly abducting a West Bengal-based businessman and his associate in Jharkhand's Khunti district and demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Friday in Tilmi area under the jurisdiction of Jariyagarh police station. Upon receiving information, police rescued both victims, they said.

Torpa Sub-divisional Police Officer Christopher Kerketta said, "We have rescued both the victims and arrested six people for their alleged involvement in the crime."

The businessman, identified as Haru Mukherjee (65), had come to the house of his associate, Vijay Oraon (40), to recruit labourers for work at a brick kiln.

The accused hail from different parts of Khunti, and police also seized a four-wheeler, three motorcycles, and five mobile phones from their possession, the officer said, adding an FIR has also been registered and further investigation is underway.
