Bengaluru: In a major judgment, the Special Court for People's Representatives in Bengaluru has convicted former JDS MP Prajwal Revanna in the abduction and rape case involving a woman from KR Nagar, Mysuru. The verdict was delivered by Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat, who had concluded final hearings on July 29.

The court found Prajwal Revanna guilty under charges of abduction and sexual assault. While the quantum of punishment is yet to be announced, legal experts suggest he may face a minimum of 10 years’ imprisonment, extending up to life imprisonment under relevant sections of the IPC.

As the verdict was being read out, Revanna was reportedly seen wiping tears before leaving the courtroom.

The case pertains to the abduction and sexual assault of a woman from KR Nagar. Allegations state that the woman was kidnapped and confined at a farmhouse near Hunsur to prevent her from disclosing the incident. The case is part of a larger investigation involving multiple accusations of serial sexual assault against Prajwal Revanna.

Former minister H.D. Revanna and Bhavani Revanna are among the nine accused in the case. Both have already secured bail in the abduction matter. Prajwal Revanna, who was arrested on May 31, 2024, has been lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru for over a year.
