Bengaluru: A fraud case has been lodged against Union Minister Prahlad Joshi's brother, Gopal Joshi, who is currently absconding. Home Minister G. Parameshwara confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and three people have already been arrested in connection with the case.

Speaking to reporters near his residence in Sadashivanagar, Parameshwara said, "When a complaint is filed, it must be taken seriously. Gopal Joshi is absconding, and the police are continuing their investigation as per the law."

He further clarified that he is not aware of any direct involvement of Pralhad Joshi in the matter. "It is too early to comment on his role. Once the arrested individuals are questioned and their statements recorded, we will have clarity. Until the investigation progresses and reports are submitted, it wouldn't be appropriate to make any assumptions," Parameshwara added.

On a different note, the Home Minister also responded to questions about the caste census. He said, "I am unaware of why Congress MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa met Yediyurappa and Basavaraj Bommai. The government has spent ₹160 crore on the caste census, and after spending such a large sum, people have the right to know the results. The Chief Minister has assured that the report detailing the population of different communities will be presented to the cabinet. Not everyone will agree 100% on any issue; there will always be opposing views," he remarked.

ISLAMABAD: At least two more cases of poliovirus were reported in Pakistan, taking the number of infections to 52 so far this year, a report said on Friday.

“The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the detection of two more wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases in Pakistan," an official statement said.

The fresh infections — a boy and a girl — were reported from the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

“Genetic sequencing of the samples collected from the children is underway," the statement read. Dera Ismail Khan, one of the seven polio-endemic districts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has reported five polio cases so far this year.

Of the 52 cases in the country this year, 24 are from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 13 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.

There is no cure for polio. Only multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and completion of the routine vaccination schedule for all children under the age of five can keep them protected.
