Bengaluru: The Department of School Education and Literacy has invited applications from private schools and aided schools for renewal of recognition (RR) through an online process this year.

According to a recent notification, physical applications will not be accepted.

Renewal of recognition for schools is a process of re-applying to the relevant government education authority to maintain the school’s legal and operational status. Therefore, the department has made it mandatory for the schools to submit updated information about infrastructure, staff, finances and to comply with safety and curriculum requirements, as reported by The New Indian Express on Friday.

However, the private schools’ association has raised objections to the compulsory submission of building safety, land conversion and fire safety certificates.

“We welcome the decision of the education department but they should have released this notification in the beginning of the academic year in April or May,” TNIE quoted Lokesh Talikote, President, Recognised and Unaided Private Schools Association (RUPSA), as saying.

He added that schools would struggle to complete the online process within a month, which could lead to a loss of recognition and affect teachers, students, and parents.

Talikote also pointed out that while the Supreme Court has stated that buildings under 15 meters do not require a fire safety No Objection Certificate (NOC), the education department has made it mandatory for all schools this year.

He further alleged instances of corruption during the last recognition renewal process, claiming that some officials demanded bribes to approve applications. “We have submitted most of these bribe cases along with evidences to the higher officials in the department itself. No action was taken against them. This time, again the department with this new notification is making way for more corruption,” he added.

Jaipur (PTI): A student preparing for the NEET examination allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in a rented room in Rajasthan's Sikar on Friday, police said.

According to the police, the student allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan using his sister's scarf while one sister was attending coaching classes and the other was in the bathroom.

He had appeared in the NEET UG exam 2026, which was cancelled due to paper leak, they said.

Udyog Nagar SHO Rajesh Kumar said that the deceased, identified as Pradeep Meghwal, was a resident of Kanika ki Dhani village in Jhunjhunu's Gudha Gaudji area.

He had been living in a rented room in Sikar's Jaldhari Nagar area with his two sisters while preparing for NEET over the last three years.

His elder sister later found him hanging and informed the landlord and police after bringing him down, officials said.

The SHO said the body was kept at SK Hospital mortuary, and a postmortem had not been conducted.

The student's father, Rajesh Kumar Meghwal, told police that Pradeep's NEET examination had gone well and the family was expecting him to score around 650 marks.

Former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot expressed grief over the incident and linked it to anxiety among students after reports of irregularities and paper leaks in NEET 2026.

Pilot said repeated paper leak incidents and cancellation of examinations were affecting students' mental health and demanded a time-bound investigation and strict action against those responsible.
