Bengaluru, Jan 30: The Chikmagaluru and Udupi District Congress Committee urged Priyanka Gandhi to contest from Chikmagaluru-Udupi Lok Sabha constituency which gave a political rebirth to her grandmother Indira Gandhi, in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.
Forty-one years back, Indira Gandhi had won in the Chikmagaluru by-election and then, George Fernandes had campaigned against Indira Gandhi.
Now, Shobha Karandlaje of the BJP is the Lok Sabha Member from this constituency. The Congress lost power in 1977 and Indira Gandhi was also defeated. Later, Indira Gandhi had won from Chikmagaluru-Udupi constituency. Same thing would be repeated if Priyanka Gandhi contest from this constituency, the Congressmen opined.
