Mysuru: The suspect in the recent rape and murder of a minor girl was arrested by police on Thursday night. He was shot in the leg while allegedly trying to escape custody.

The suspect has been identified as Karthik, a resident of Siddalingapura in Mysuru taluk.

The victim, a girl from Kalaburagi aged between nine and ten, sold balloons at the Dasara Exhibition, grounds. According to police, she went to sleep with her mother in their tent at Doddakere Maidan on Wednesday night but was found missing on Thursday morning.

Her body was later discovered a short distance from the tent, near a mound of mud. Police suspected she had been raped and murdered.
After inspecting CCTV footage near the site, officers identified Karthik's movements as suspicious and began a search. Upon receiving information that Karthik had traveled by a private bus to Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district, a police team pursued him there and arrested him on Thursday evening.

The police team brought him back to Mysuru that night. It was during this time that Karthik allegedly attempted to escape, prompting officers to shoot him in the leg to detain him.

Karthik is currently receiving treatment at KR Hospital in Mysuru.

Kalaburagi: A dispute over property turned deadly after a man killed his cousin brother using a knife in Kalaburagi’s Sedam taluk late on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Basavaraja Talawara (35), a resident of Hanganahalli village.

Basavaraja was involved in a dispute with his cousin, Ghulesh, over the division of family property for some time.

On Friday night, a clash broke out between the duo during which Ghulesh allegedly stabbed Basavaraja with a knife.Basavaraja died on the spot due to severe bleeding, while the accused Ghulesh is absconding, police said.

District Superintendent of Police Addur Srinivasalu, DySP Sangamanath Hiremath and CPI Mahadeva Diddimani visited the crime scene and conducted an investigation.

A complaint has been filed at the Malkheda police station in this regard.
