Bijapur: Two RTI activists; Abdul Hamid Inamdar and Sunny Gavimath have accused BJP MLA, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal of illegally constructing a school on government land in Bijapur city.

Displaying the documents at a press conference on Tuesday, Gavimath said that Yatnal has got his school, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Shishu Niketan School constructed on plot number 99, survey number 688/B of the city, the land belongs to the government.

He alleged that the land which has not been sold to anybody and still shows as ‘open land’ in government records, has been encroached by Yatnal in post locality of Court Colony for construction of the school.

“ When we searched for the documents, we found that the land is reserved by the government for developing the park, Yatnal has encroached upon over 1-acre land, the values of which run into crores.  Without obtaining permission from anybody, he has simply got the school constructed in the name of Former Prime Minister, late, A. B. Vajapeyee”, Gavimath said.

He said that after raising the issue, some of the residents of the Court colony too have decided to join their movement against Yatnal. “ So far, the people of the locality were fearing to raise voice against MLA, but now some of them are getting stronger after we took up the matter in public “, Gavimath said.

Chiding Yatnal for claiming that he is one of the clean and honest MLAs, Gavimath wondered if Yatnal is really honest, then he should not only hand over the land back to the government but should also own moral responsibility for the illegal act and tender his resignation.

He said that they would submit the details to the District Administration for taking action against the MLA.

Making another allegation, Inamdar accused Yatnal of taking money from his supporters to get the shops allotted near Government High School premises.

“We have information that Yatnal has taken Rs. 10 lakh each from at least 100 persons for granting shops. Since the construction of shops in school areas is illegal, we have obtained a stay from the Court on the construction of shops”, Inamdar said.

Demanding the district administration to take action against the illegal construction of the shops, both of them have also urged BJP leadership to sack Yatnal from the party.
