Sept 14: 559 new COVID-19 cases, 12 deaths in Karnataka
Dakshina Kannada logs 87 fresh infections and 5 fatalities
Bengaluru, Sep 14: Karnataka has reported 559 new cases of COVID-19 and 12 deaths, taking the total number of infections to 29,62,967 and death toll to 37,529, the Health department said on Tuesday.
The day also saw 1,034 discharges, taking the total number of recoveries in the state so far to 29,09,656.
Out of the 559 new cases reported on Tuesday, 231 were from Bengaluru Urban, as the city saw 302 discharges and 4 deaths.
The total number of active cases in the state is at 15,754.
While the positivity rate for the day stood at 0.52 per cent, case fatality rate (CFR) was at 2.14 per cent.
Out of 12 deaths reported on Tuesday, five are from Dakshina Kannada; Bengaluru Urban (4), Kodagau, Shivamogga and Uttara Kannada (1).
Among the districts where the new cases were reported, Bengaluru Urban accounted for 231, Dakshina Kannada 87, Udupi 57, Mysuur 28, Tumakuru 24, followed by others.
Bengaluru Urban district tops the list of positive cases, with a total of 12,41,870, followed by Mysuru 1,76,940 and Tumakuru 1,19,716.
Among discharges too, Bengaluru Urban tops the list with 12,18,673, followed by Mysuru 1,74,065 and Tumakuru 1,18,000.
Cumulatively a total of 4,55,19,587 samples have been tested in the state so far, out of which 1,05,645 were tested on Tuesday alone.

Six arrested in Bengaluru drug racket; narcotics worth Rs 20 crore seized
Bengaluru: Six persons have been arrested for allegedly procuring banned narcotic substances at low prices and selling them for profit, with college students among the buyers, police said on Tuesday.
Police seized 8 kg 58 g of MDMA, 5 kg 700 g of hydro ganja, four mobile phones, and a car used to transport the drugs. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 10.05 crore, while the market value is around Rs 20.10 crore, The Times of India reported.
The arrests followed searches carried out at various locations based on specific intelligence inputs.
Police said information had been received about the sale of banned drugs, including MDMA and hydro ganja, within the limits of Yeshwanthpur and Nandini Layout police stations.
“During these operations, six individuals were detained on different dates, two from other states and four locals,” a statement issued by the office of City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said.
“Upon interrogation, the accused confessed that they were purchasing banned drugs such as MDMA and hydro ganja at low prices from unknown inter-state and local suppliers and selling them to the public, with college students among the buyers, for profit,” the statement added.
Police said efforts are underway to identify and trace the suppliers involved in the network.
All six accused have been produced before a court on different dates and remanded to judicial custody, police said.
