Bidar: Dr. Abdul Qadeer, Chairman and Founder of Shaheen Group of Institutions, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to adopt the historic Mahmud Gawan Madrasa in Bidar. This partnership aims to preserve and develop the madrasa over the next five years.

The Mahmud Gawan Madrasa, built in 1472 by Mahmud Gawan, Prime Minister of the Bahmani Sultanate, was once a significant center of learning. It offered education in various fields such as theology, philosophy, astronomy, mathematics, and languages like Arabic and Persian. The madrasa housed a library with 3,000 books, a mosque, lecture halls, and accommodations for both students and teachers, drawing scholars from different parts of the world.

Under the terms of the MOU, Shaheen Group will focus on improving the site's amenities. These include enhancing hygiene facilities like toilets and drinking water points, improving accessibility through pathways and ramps, and upgrading safety measures such as first aid stations and CCTV surveillance. Additionally, the site will see the introduction of cultural and educational features like a light and sound show, interpretation tools, and Wi-Fi services.

Tausif Madikeri, an executive with the Shaheen Group, shared details of these planned improvements, emphasizing that the initiative is part of the institution's broader efforts to contribute positively to society by preserving important cultural sites.

This effort is seen as a step toward ensuring that the Mahmud Gawan Madrasa remains an important historical and educational site for future generations.

Raichur (Karnataka) (PTI): Fire broke out near the stage of the mass marriage event that was attended by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar here, police said on Sunday.

Nobody was affected, and the fire was immediately put out, they said.

The fire was noticed shortly after Shivakumar and other dignitaries left the stage, and Forest Minister Eshwaran Khandre was speaking to the media at the venue in Sindhanur, officials said.

According to officials, wires, speakers, and cloth materials near the stage caught fire, allegedly due to a short circuit.

Police personnel present at the spot quickly swung into action and extinguished the fire.

The programme was halted for some time and resumed later, they said.

Several ministers, legislators and political leaders from the region, and actor Sudeep had attended the event.
