Bengaluru (PTI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Sunday visited Minister for Planning and Statistics D Sudhakar, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital here for a lung infection.

The minister is receiving “intensive medical care” at the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS).

Shivakumar met Sudhakar’s family members and doctors and enquired about his condition, the deputy CM’s office said in a statement.

Congress MLA T Raghumurthy was also present.

The hospital said on Saturday that Sudhakar is stable on life support and that if his lungs do not show significant improvement, he may be considered for a lung transplant.

Noting that the minister was shifted to KIMS on April 20 from Manipal Hospital, Yeshwanthpur, on ECLS (Extracorporeal Life Support) for advanced care, a statement said: “He is on full life support to assist vital organ functions. A specialised multidisciplinary team of expert doctors is monitoring his condition round the clock.”

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited Sudhakar at the hospital on Saturday and discussed his condition with family members and doctors.

Speaking to reporters in Chitradurga, Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy made cryptic remarks, alleging that some details regarding the hospitalised minister were being withheld.

“I don’t want to discuss anything while a person is battling for life, but we should see what is happening inside. I don’t know how much the person is suffering. Why is some information being hidden? Is it to take thumb impressions? We have seen such things before. I don’t want to discuss this matter, but some people are experts in misusing such situations,” he alleged, without specifying what he was implying.
