Bengaluru: Sports department, police department and Yuvajana felicitated the Kabaddi Champion, who clinched a silver medal in women’s Kabaddi at the Asian Games in Jakarta on Friday.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwar issued a check of Rs 15 lakh to Usharanani during the occasion.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr G Parameshwar said, "Usharani, a constable in the police department, who developed her interest in the sport and won the international award, has brought laurels to the nation."
Meanwhile, the deputy CM assured that Usharani will be promoted to B Grade in the police department.
Rohan Bopanna and Faud Mirza have bagged a gold medal at tennis doubles titles at the same event and they will also be honored soon, the Deputy Chief Minister said.
Chief Secretary Rajneesh Goyal, DG Neelamani Raju, City Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar and others were present.

Ranchi (PTI): Four minors were detained for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl at a birthday party in Jharkhand’s Ranchi, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place on March 31 within the Namkum police station limits. An FIR in this regard was lodged on April 16 based on the girl’s statement, they said.
“All five, including the victim, were friends, and the girl had gone to attend the birthday party of one of those detained. At the party, the accused consumed alcohol and allegedly raped her,” said Ramnarayan Singh, the officer in-charge of Namkum police station.
“The four, aged between 15 and 17 years, have been detained and the medical examination of the girl is underway,” Singh said.
Further investigation is underway.
