Bengaluru: The Karnataka Congress has expressed disappointment over the omission of late Dr. Shivakumar Swamiji from the list of those awarded Bharat Ratna on Friday evening.

For years, there was a demand to confer the highest civilian award on the Swamiji, who was a philanthropist and touched the lives of many from different religions and castes in the span of 111 years. The Seer had also established Sri Siddaganga Education Society, helped thousands access education.

Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy had said that the Swamiji was eligible for the Bharat Ratna Award and the BJP had supported this. BJP state President BS Yeddyurappa had also given a statement regarding this in Tumkuru recently. He had urged the center to bestow the Bharat Ratna Award upon the Siddaganga Seer.
