Bengaluru: Kannadigas who are stranded abroad will return to the state starting May 8, Pankaj Kumar Pandey, commissioner of the Health Department, has said.
The native citizens will be kept under quarantine in Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts and Mangaluru city. They will be sent to their respective homes if the medical examination report returns as COVID-19 negative, said the officer, while addressing a press meet.
“About 10,823 Kannadigas will return to the state from different countries, with 6,100 people returning in the first phase. The quarantine tag will be given as they land at the airport. They will be provided a sim card for a local number; facilities will be made for them to purchase masks and sanitiser in the local shops. Also, they will be instructed to download the Arogya Setu app on to their mobile phones while moving to quarantine from the airport,” Pandey said.
Speaking further, the commissioner explained, “Kannadigas who show symptoms of infection will be put under Grade-A and sent to hospital for testing. Senior citizens with no signs of infection but with other health issues will be put under Grade-B while people showing no signs of infection will be under Grade-C. People in both grades, however, will be put under quarantine as per government orders.”
He added, “People in Grade-B will be under seven days of institutional quarantine, seven days of home quarantine and under inspection for the remaining 14 days. People in Grade-C will be in 14 days of home quarantine and 14 days of inspection.”
Every passenger will be tested on the first day. For 'A' and 'B' Grades people, three tests should be conducted - on the first day, after 5 to 7 days, and on the 12th day. C category people will have two tests on the first day and after 5-7 days, he said.

Office bearers of several organizations, including UAE NRI Forum president Praveen Shetty, have contacted the state and central government ministers about the plight of non-resident Kannadigas residing in the UAE. The organizations have also urged that there was an urgent need to send at least one flight from the UAE to Karnataka in which women with severe distress, and those who are in the need of immediate treatment must be sent.

Mumbai (PTI): Ryan Rickelton's whirlwind unbeaten ton was overshadowed by Heinrich Klaasen's unbeaten 65 as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Mumbai Indians by six wickets in an IPL match here on Wednesday.
Chasing an imposing 244-run target, Travis Head (76 off 30) and Abhishek Sharma (45 off 24) shared 129 runs for the opening wicket to set the platform for SRH.
Klaasen (65 not out off 30 balls) then displayed his all-round hitting abilities to guide SRH home with the help of Nitish Kumar Reddy (21) and Salil Arora (30 not out off 10) in 18.4 overs.
Earlier, Rickelton's knock powered MI to 243 for five.
MI rode on a 93-run stand between Rickelton (123 not out off 55 balls) and Will Jacks (46 off 22) in 7.1 overs for the opening stand to power the side.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya scored a valuable 31 off 15 balls before being dismissed.
