Bengaluru: "A survey will be conducted across the city to identify illegal buildings. I will instruct the Revenue Department not to register properties that do not comply with building regulations. People buy land at a low cost and sell it without proper planning. The RERA Act is in place to prevent such illegal activities," said Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

He added, "21 workers are trapped under the debris of the collapsed building. Two workers have lost their lives, 14 have been rescued, and seven have been admitted to the hospital. NDRF and SDRF teams are working cautiously and swiftly on the rescue operation. The workers involved were from Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. The identity of one deceased worker has been confirmed as from Bihar."

"Action will be taken against the building contractor, landowner, and responsible officials. Compensation will be provided to the workers after the rescue operation is completed," he said.

"Unprecedented heavy rain has occurred. Seven to eight families in the Central Viraha Layout have locked themselves inside their homes, refusing to come out for rescue. I have instructed that their doors be broken open and they be rescued before any mishap occurs," he added.
